Texas Food Stamps - SNAP
Most SNAP benefit periods last for six months but some can be as short as one month or as long as three years. For the most part, adults the age of 18-50 who do not have a child at home SNAP benefits are limited to three months in a 3 year period. The benefit period can be longer if the adult works at least 20 hours a week and/or is in a training program. Some people, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant may not have to work to get SNAP (Food Stamps). Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) gives SNAP benefits through the Lone Star Card. This is a plastic card that's used just like a creditcard at the cashregister to pay for food purchases. Each and every month the family’s approved monthly SNAP money is placed on the card. If you need help filling out an application for SNAP, you can visit an HHSC benefits office near you or contact a community group that works with HHSC. You also can call toll-free 2-1-1 for help.
